Farsightedness (Hyperopia)
Hyperopia (not to be confused with reading vision) is a condition that causes difficulty seeing objects close-up. The majority of patients wear glasses or contact lenses to correct their vision for hyperopia.
Hyperopia can now be successfully treated with laser surgery and/or lens replacements.
A hyperopic eye is too short. The light rays enter the eye and do not evenly converge on the retina, resulting in close-up images appearing blurry. Laser eye surgery will reshape the cornea, to create a central steepness, which allows the light rays to enter the eye and produce a close-up image that is crisp and clear.
Lens replacements can also correct hyperopia. Your natural crystalline lens is removed and replaced with an acrylic implant allowing you, in the majority of cases, to experience improved vision without the dependency of glasses or contact lenses.
