The Restore VISION PROCEDURE

This is the latest technology and fast becoming the preferred refractive procedure for patients who are suffering from reading vision as well as distance vision. This is a multi-focal lens implant, which can eliminate people's dependence on bi-focals, tri-focals and/or progressive lenses.

The procedure, very similar to cataract surgery, is performed on an out-patient basis. The natural lens in your eye is removed and replaced with the ReSTOR intraocular lens, which will remain with you for your lifetime. The advancement in the lens technology now allows the majority of people 45+ to consider the procedure, gain good vision for distance and reading vision without the need for glasses. A further advantage to this procedure is that you will not get cataracts as you age, as your natural lens has been removed.

Once the surgery has been completed, you will be taken to the recovery area. Once comfortable, you will be discharged home. Once you arrive home, rest and sleep as much as possible for the first 24 hours. You will return to the centre for your 24 hour post-operative examination. You will then return at two weeks, six weeks, three months and six months.

There is an adjustment period with the Restore Vision Procedure and it can take up to six months, or even longer, for some patients to achieve their ultimate visual expectation. Some patients may need a further laser surgery following the lens implant procedure, to correct any residual astigmatism.

Blaylock Procedure

Dr. Blaylock has developed a unique method for also optimizing a patient's intermediate vision during the Restore Vision Procedure, now trademarked as the Blaylock Procedure. Click here for more information on the Blaylock Procedure.

VERISYSE™ Implantable Contact Lens

For moderate to high Myopia (Nearsightedness)

The VERISYSE™ Implantable Contact Lens (ICL) is unique in that it can be placed in the eye without removing the eye’s natural lens. It is effective in correcting nearsightedness (myopia) that can be corrected with lenses between -5.00 and -20.00 diopters (a measure of lens power). If you have nearsightedness in this range, and are not a candidate for laser eye surgery, the VERISYSE Lens implant may be beneficial for you.

The VERISYSE Lens is an acrylic intraocular lens that is inserted in front of your natural lens, between the cornea and the iris, during a surgical procedure. Once the VERISYSE Lens has been implanted in your eye and your eye has healed, the light coming into your eye can correctly focus on the retina, resulting in improved vision.

When the VERISYSE lens is placed in the eye of patients who are less than 40 years of age, the eye can still accommodate and see objects up close. After the age of 40, the eye loses its ability to adjust and reading glasses become necessary-even with the VERISYSE Lens. It is possible that a patient will require glasses to sharpen their distance and near vision even with the VERISYSE Lens.

This is elective surgery. Your decision should be based on your own visual needs and balancing the benefits against the potential risks of the surgery after a thorough evaluation at our centre. At Valley Laser Eye Centre, complimentary consultations are available to find out if you are a candidate for the VERISYSE Lens.
