Presbyopia (Reading Vision)
Also known as “decreased reading vision”, presbyopia normally develops in our late 40’s, or early 50’s. Though it is frustrating for many patients to wear reading glasses, bi-focals, tri-focals or progressive lenses for many people it is an inevitable. Note that, the popular laser surgeries, such as IntraLASIK and PRK, do not correct reading vision. In some cases, mono-vision can be performed, which allows one eye to become your distance eye and the other eye to become your reading eye. Most patients do not tolerate mono-vision very well and it is only a temporary procedure. As your eyes age, you will struggle with mono vision, eventually being forced into reading glasses once again, or having another laser treatment to correct the reading vision eye up to distance, leaving you unable to read without the use of reading glasses. Because of these issues, the mono-vision approach is not very popular.
With the breakthrough of multifocal lens implants, many patients who are age 48+ are opting to have a lens implant to correct their distance, intermediate and reading vision.Click here to find out more about Vision Procedure™
