Valley Laser Eye Centre, Abbotsford, BC, Canada

Cathy emigrated from England in 1990. She completed her schooling in Canada and worked for a physiotherapy clinic as an accounts clerk. She was hired as a receptionist at Valley Laser Eye Centre in August 1998.

Cathy completed extensive accounting courses over the years and is now the Accounts Officer for the centre.
She is also Administrative Assistant to Dr. Blaylock and
Julie Lucas, working as their personal assistant.

Dr. Norman McCurdy

Dr. McCurdy is well known in the Fraser Valley and has many years of experience in both private and public care as a practicing anesthesiologist. We are delighted to have Dr. McCurdy on our staff offering our patients premium anesthetic care.

Cheryl

Cheryl has been working in the ophthalmic field for 25 years. She joined Dr. Blaylock in his general ophthalmology/cataract centre in January 1998.

Cheryl is a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant, specializing in biometry. Cheryl is a highly skilled biometrist, measuring patient's eyes for lens implants. Cheryl works very closely with Dr. Blaylock on selection of lenses for the ultimate visual outcome for patients who undergo cataract surgery and lens implants. Cheryl has also been trained to assist Dr. Blaylock in the operating room when performing laser eye surgery.

Sandi

Sandi has been working in the ophthalmic field for 20 years. She joined Valley Laser Eye Centre in June 1999. She completed her Certified Ophthalmic Assistant course in 2000 through the American Academy of Opthalmology. Sandi sees all our patients in consultation assessing whether they are ideal candidates for any of the several surgical procedures we offer.

Sandi handles all our co-management for our laser patients, working closely with the patient's Optometrist in their follow-up care.Sandi has also been trained to assist Dr. Blaylock in the operating room when performing laser eye surgery procedure.

Sandra

Sandra has been working in the ophthalmic field for 7 years. She joined Valley Laser Eye Centre in November 2005. She completed her Ophthalmic Assistant course in September 2006. Sandra sees all our patients in consultation assessing whether they are ideal candidates for any of the several surgical procedures we offer.

Sandra completes our chart audit control, as specified by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of B.C. to ensure that all charts meet their strict guidelines. Sandra is trained to assist Dr. Blaylock in the operating room when performing laser eye surgery procedures. Sandra has been in the medical field for a total of 19 years and we are delighted to have her on our team.

Leif

Leif joined Valley Laser Eye Centre/Blaylock Surgical centre, March 2006 as an Operating Room Technician.

Leif took his O.R. Technician course in Seattle, WA and has worked for twenty years in the operating room. His area of special interest is eye surgery, and he has assisted ophthalmologists as well as many other specialized surgeons.

He has previously worked in Bellevue, Bellingham and Seattle WA and in California before coming to work in Abbotsford, B.C. His wealth of knowledge and expertise in the operating room, allows the surgeon to work efficiently with confidence knowing that Leif is experienced in operating room procedures and protocols.

He is married and has two grown daughters. Leif enjoys hiking, other outdoor activities, and meeting new people.

Val

Val joined Blaylock Surgical Centre March 2006 as our post-anesthetic care unit Registered Nurse. Val took her nursing at Kelsey Institute Saskatoon Sask.

She is trained in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and has worked for Chilliwack General Hospital and various private surgical centers utilizing her skills as a recovery nurse. We are very fortunate to have acquired Val, as she brings a wealth of expertise and offers superior patient care at our centre.

Jean

Jean joined Blaylock Surgical Centre in March 2006.
She is an experienced operating and recovery room registered nurse, specializing in pre and post-operative patient care.

She offers compassion and reassurance to our patients before and after their surgery. Jean graduated from the Royal Columbian Hospital School of Nursing in New Westminster in 1964 and worked in various lower mainland hospitals before moving to Mission where she worked for twenty-five years.

We are delighted to have Jean on staff, as she brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our surgical centre.

Monica

Monica joined Blaylock Surgical Centre in May 2006.
She is an experienced operating room registered nurse, specializing in ophthalmology and plastic/cosmetic surgical procedures.

Monica took her nursing in 1981/83 at Mac School of Nursing, St. Catherine’s Campus, Ontario. Qualification: She received her Operating Room Diploma in 1987 at George Brown College, Toronto. We are pleased to have Monica on staff, as she brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the operating room and works well with all surgeons.

Rubyna

Ruby joined Blaylock Surgical Centre in March 2006.
She is an experienced registered nurse, specializing in
post-operative care.

She offers compassion and reassurance to all our patients following their surgery. Ruby took her nursing at the British Columbia Institute of Technology and her Batchelor of Science at Walla Walla College. Certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Emergency Nursing for Pediatric Care, we are pleased to have Ruby on staff, as she brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our surgical centre post-operative care unit.

Candylee

Candy joined Dr. Blaylock's general ophthalmology and cataract clinic in November 1999 as a receptionist/transcriptionist.

She completed her Ophthalmic Assistant course in 2001 through the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Candy now performs all pre-testing on surgical patients checking for the corneal thickness and any irregularities on the patients eye, prior to their consultation with Dr. Blaylock. Candy informs all patients of their surgical times and pre-operative instructions and assists Dr. Blaylock with his patients on a day to day basis, including preparing patients for refractive surgery.

Amber

Amber joined Valley Laser Eye Centre in November 2004 as a receptionist. Amber completed her Nursing Unit Clerk course in April 2002. Amber is now our Surgical Booking Co-ordinator for Valley Laser Eye Centre.

Amber works on the front desk answering patient calls and handling payments for surgeries. She is also in charge of all co-management for Restore and Cataract surgeries. Amber informs all patients of their surgical times and pre-operative instructions for the IntraLASIK, LASIK, PRK, Restore Vision Procedure and Verisyse Lens implants.

Michele

Michele joined Dr. Blaylock in November 2004 as a Medical Office Assistant at his General Ophthalmology / Cataract Practice. Michele completed her Medical Office Assistant course in 1993.

She has been employed in the medical field since 1993 working in Physiotherapy, Optometry, Radiology and General Practice in the Lower Mainland. Michele works on the front desk assisting with the patient calls, billings, consultations and surgical bookings primarily for the cataract patients at our centre.

Roxanne

Roxanne joined Blaylock Surgical Centre in March 2006 as a
Medical Office Assistant.

Roxanne has worked in the medical field since 1990, working as a Medical assistant for a family practitioner for several years, and then for 13 years for an otolaryngologist.

Roxanne works in the surgical reception assisting with the surgeons, patient calls, billings, consultations and surgical bookings.

Reagen

Reagen joined Blaylock Surgical Centre in May 2006 as a Medical Office Assistant. Reagen brings with her 15 years experience in the medical field.

Reagen is an experienced dispensing optician and managing a 4 physician family practice. Duties include, working on the front desk, assisting with the patient calls, billings, consultations and surgical bookings.

Jodie

Jodie joined Valley Laser Eye Centre in July 2006 as a Medical Office Assistant. Jodie completed her Medical Office Assistant course in 2002. She has worked in the medical field since 2002, working at a physiotherapy clinic and a general practitioner's office. Jodie works on the front desk assisting with the patient calls, billings, consultations and surgical bookings primarily for the cataract patients at our centre.

Holly

Holly joined Valley Laser Eye Centre in May 2006 as a Medical Office Assistant.

Holly completed her Medical Office Assistant course in 2005. Holly works on the front desk assisting with the patient calls, billings, consultations and surgical bookings.

Jen

Jen joined Valley Laser Eye Centre in March 2006 as a Medical Office Assistant. Jen is now trained as our full-time transcriptionist. Jen works on the front desk assisting the medical office assistants where necessary.

Eunice

Eunice joined Dr. Blaylock's general ophthalmology and cataract clinic in 1989 as a receptionist/transcriptionist.

She completed her Ophthalmic Assistant Fundamentals and Clinical practice course through the Centennial College of Toronto, allowing her to assist Dr. Blaylock with his patients.

Eunice left to have her family and has now returned part-time as a valued Education Councillor, advising patients of their surgical options, prior to their consultation. Eunice brings a wealth of ophthalmic knowledge and expertise helping our patient's make an informed decision.
